The NIAID Data Ecosystem includes AI-generated summaries for each dataset, created using GPT-4o mini. These summaries condense information from the original longer descriptions, combined with information from the metadata record, to make it easier for users to browse datasets.

AI-generated summaries are not intended to replace the original dataset descriptions. They offer a short reference to support faster browsing. The AI-generated summaries provide concise overviews, as some dataset descriptions are hundreds or even thousands of words long. The summaries are not human-reviewed, so users should refer to the original descriptions for more comprehensive information.

To reduce the likelihood of hallucinations in the AI-generated summaries, only metadata records with a combined name and description length of greater than 200 words will have AI-generated summaries.
